Taxonomy of Edges

Hard edges are of many kinds, and it may be impossible to generalize across their various manifestations. Some are edges of social censure or embarrassment, the kind that make us comply, keep us respectful, or teach us not to live irresponsibly. Their effects may be good or evil. Other edges are the boot camps of life; they make us stronger through trial and leave us fitter at the end of the gauntlet. Yet other edges are forces of malicious harm: the infliction of pain by one human onto another to exert control, to enslave, or simply to hurt for the twisted delight of it. Still other edges are scenery, the furniture of this existence, which by nature (but not intention) jab and poke the soft flesh of humanity as it tries to find a way. The taxonomy of edges is multi-categorical. We live among edges--with them, despite them, and because of them.
