Scorcher
The day was not only hot, it was a record breaker. When Steph told me that LA had reached record temperatures, I was pretty sure that the record was for September 27. With record-keeping going back to 1877, that would be impressive enough. But records were smashed not just for the calendar day, but for all time. LA reached 113 degrees, which was hotter than the Inland Empire (Riverside, etc.). Why should LA be hotter with its closer proximity to the ocean? I speculated that it might have to do with all the concrete in LA, but maybe it was just that the air conditioners were pumping the inside hot air to the outdoors. In any case, Irvine was hot, too. In fact, a major power outage hit several hundred homes in University Hills, but not ours. Strange that the power failure followed a major upgrade of electrical relay systems this summer all over Uni Hills. On a hot, hot day, a little irony is kinda cool.
